AMHERST, Mass. - In one of New England's best lacrosse rivalries, Brown defeated UMass, 7-4, in men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Garber Field. Madeira scored his second goal of the game with just 2:33 left in the first half to give Brown a 3-2 lead they would never relinquish.

Brown built the lead to 5-2 on goals by Jack Walsh and Thomas Muldoon in the first 4:14 of the third quarter. Pedrick scored his second of the game to cut the lead to 5-3 just 47 seconds after Muldoon's tally.

The teams played even for nearly the remainder of the quarter until Zach Caldwell's second goal of the game made it a three-goal edge again, 6-3, with just 5.6 seconds left in the third quarter.

Brett Garber's man-up goal brought UMass back to within two at 6-4 just 1:35 into the fourth. Madeira closed the scoring with his third of the game with 5:13 in regulation.

Brown goalie Jordan Burke was sensational all game with 16 saves. Doc Schneider made 12 saves for the Minutemen.

UMass' other goal came from sophomore Evan Blum, who scored his second-career goal off a pass from Tim Balise in the second quarter.

UMass outshot the Bears 35-33 and had 29 groundballs to Brown's 16.

The four-goal total was the lowest for UMass since they lost to Navy, 6-3, on March 11, 2000. UMass is also 1-4 for the first time since 1965.
