AMHERST, Mass. - Eleven players scored goals including two with the first tallies of their careers as UMass beat Providence, 17-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Garber Field. Sophomore Art Kell scored a career-high five goals and added an assist for six points. Ryan Hantverk and Will Manny each had two goals. UMass (4-2 overall) will be off for a week until travelling to Brown next Tuesday at 4 p.m.

UMass had its largest margin of victory since 2004 when the Minutemen beat Manhattan, 16-4 on April 9.

The Minutemen scored the first eight goals of the game and the contest was never in doubt. Kell's third goal gave the Minutemen an 8-0 lead with 10:43 left in the second quarter.

Eight different Minutemen scored the team's eight goals in the second half including three with their first of the season: Mike Wilus, Colin Fleming (first of career) and Mael Walkowiak (first of career), who was playing his first game in the field after being a goalie last season. His goal was assisted by Seth Berggren, the redshirt freshman's first career point.

UMass' other second-half goals came from Ryan Smith, Ryan Liebel, Manny, Kell and K.R. Jurgelevich.

The Minutemen outshot the Friars, 55-17 and outgroundballed them, 37-19.

In nets, Tim McCormack made two saves and Steve Mahle, played the fourth quarter making three stops.

Both face-off men won seven draws each: Anthony Toresco (7-of-11) and Greg Rushing (7-of-12).

Again, UMass will be back in action on Tuesday at Brown at 4 p.m.
