Former UMass standout Marvin Degon has been nominated to compete in the DEL (German Elite League) Team America vs. Team Europe All-Star Game in Berlin, Germany and fans can vote online to help select the former Minuteman to the team. Degon currently ranks third among all defensemen in the league in points as he has seven goals and 15 assists for the Wolfsburg Grizzly Adams.

Degon graduated from UMass in 2006 after playing in 146 career games where he scored 83 career points (27 goals, 56 assists. He played for two seasons with the Hartford Wolfpack and the Hamilton Bulldogs in the AHL before playing for Wolfsburg this season.

The 2009 DEL All-Star game will be held on January 31 in front of a projected 14,000 fans. Which players will compete for Team Europe and Team America will be decided by the hockey fans. Journalists have narrowed down the selection with at least one defender and one offensive player being nominated per team. To vote for Degon, fans must choose players for all positions for both teams. The translation for defenseman is "abwehr" for team Nordamerika.
