New England Pond Hockey Classic set to skate onto the frozen waters of Lake Winnipesaukee during the first weekend of February

Meredith, N.H. Lake Winnipesaukee, December 1, 2009 - The first annual New England Pond Hockey Classic is set to heat up the Lake Region of New Hampshire during its deep winter freeze. Hundreds of pond hockey players and fans will flock to the region to experience the frozen lake, and freezing temperatures all for the chance to help "Bring Hockey in New England Back to the Basics."

The New England Pond Hockey Classic is an adult pond hockey tournament which will take place on Lake Winnipesaukee in Meredith, NH during the first weekend of February the 5th-7th. This 4 v 4 round robin tournament will draw teams from all over New England. With its five divisions, the NEPHC provides an opportunity for every hockey player the chance to experience the sport as it used to be played. The visitors to Meredith during tournament weekend will truly feel like they have traveled back in time as they pull into the village with its charming character, old New England architecture situated upon a frozen lake littered with pond hockey rinks.

"We couldn't be happier to call Lake Winnipesaukee and Meredith, NH home" said Scott Crowder, Founder of Ekal Excursions LLC and Tournament Director of the New England Pond Hockey Classic. "This location offers everything we need to put on a great event, from the hotels to the restaurants, shops, surrounding mountains and of course the lake."

The New England Pond Hockey Classic is a division of Ekal Excursions LLC a Lake Brand dedicated to the promotion of the lake lifestyle year round. Through this event the New England Pond Hockey Classic is driven to provide the hockey community of New England with a competitive, traditional and nostalgic hockey experience.

"Having the ability to provide a pond hockey tournament to the hockey community of New England is a very satisfying feeling." said Crowder "Before this event, the closest big pond hockey events available to the hockey players of New England were either in Buffalo, northern Maine or Canada. We hope the Pond Hockey Classic will become an annual event for the players of this region for years to come."

With the addition of a number of reputable sponsors the New England Pond Hockey Classic is shaping up to be a wonderful weekend for everyone involved. To date the NEPHC has partnered with the following companies: Inns and Spa at Mill Falls, The Common Man Family of Restaurants, Restore Hockey, The Hockey Academy, TSR Hockey, Amoskeag Beverages, Labatt Blue and Southern New Hampshire University. The NEPHC envisions that their list of sponsors will continue to grow right up to tournament weekend.

"We have experienced an amazing response from participants and sponsors alike" said Crowder "Our ultimate goal is to create an event to benefit everyone involved from local and regional businesses to the hockey community, charitable organizations, sponsors and of course the participants! We believe we are well on our way to accomplishing this goal"
