UMass Hockey Adds Troy Power As Captain
Nov. 24, 2013
AMHERST, Mass. - UMass hockey redshirt junior forward Troy Power has been named a team captain, head coach John Micheletto announced on Sunday. Power, who will wear the "C" for the first time this afternoon at Vermont, joins senior Conor Sheary, who was named a captain prior to the Minutemen's home opener against Michigan State.
"Troy has been a valuable contributor to this team, due in large part to his respect for and love of the game," said Micheletto. "His contributions on the ice and in the locker room have been significant and impactful. This is a well-deserved honor for Troy. He and Conor Sheary give us an outstanding leadership duo that we will lean on as we look to make strides in Hockey East."
Returning from an injury that sidelined him for the majority of 2012-13, Power has seen action in all 13 games this season for the Minutemen and is tied for second on the squad in points with eight on four goals and four assists.
Power was granted a medical hardship waiver earlier this fall and will have one additional season of eligibility remaining following the 2013-14 campaign. Since joining the Minutemen in 2010, he has seen action in 73 career games and has logged 25 points on eight goals and 17 assists.
This season Power has already eclipsed his previous career high in goals and is one shy of matching his career high in points, nine, set in 31 games as a sophomore in 2011-12.
