Nov. 22, 2008
AMHERST, Mass. - Good evening and welcome into the live in-game blog from the Mullins Center in Amherst, Mass. for tonight's game between the defending NCAA Champion Boston College and your UMass Minutemen. Last night the Eagles defeated the Minutemen 2-0 at Kelley Rink. Stay tuned to follow the action from tonight's rematch!
6:57 PM: The fog is building in anticipation for the Minutemen as the opening video plays up on the Mullins Center video boards.
6:58 PM: Here is tonight's starting lineup for the Eagles: Brock Bradford (left wing), Brian Gibbons (center), Benn Ferriero (right wing), Tim Kunes (defense), Tim Filangieri (defense) and John Muse in goal.
7:01 PM: This place is absolutely rocking! The students have taken over the entire UMass side from top to bottom!
7:14 PM: Six minutes into the game and it's already a 2-1 affair for the Eagles. UMass jumped out quick on a nice wrap-around goal from James Marcou, but Boston College answered with two tallies of their own.
7:21 PM: James Marcou scores again! His seventh goal of the season ties the game at 2-2 with 11:12 to play in the first period.
7:26 PM: With 5:14 remaining in the first period and we have our first penalty of the game as Boston College takes a roughing penalty giving the Minutemen the extra man advantage.
7:31 PM: Martin Nolet scores his first goal of the season giving the Minutemen a 3-2 lead with 3:13 remaining in the first period.
7:55 PM: Three minutes into the second period and no scoring, but UMass does take its second penalty of the game as Danny Hobbs gets whistled for hooking.
8:23 PM: Sorry folks, but things got a little hectic around here! First, the video went out, so I had to go all the way down stairs to the basement to fix that. If you know where the press box is, then you know how far down that is.
Next, we had a fight where four guys for each team ended up being slapped with 10-minute misconducts. We had several other penalties for each team and here we are with 1:30 left in the second and Boston College ties the game 3-3 on a roof shot from the point by Benn Ferriero.
8:29 PM: If you are listening to the radio, the web site, or watching the streaming video, make sure to stay tuned during the second intermission as new UMass basketball coach Derek Kellogg will be our special guest.
