AMHERST, Mass. - After scoring a hat trick against Holy Cross and adding an assist in the win over Northeastern, Conor Allen was named the Hockey East Athletic Republic Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday. Allen was just the third defenseman in UMass' Division I history to post a hat trick.

In addition to his scoring, Allen held a +3 rating for the weekend.

For his career, the native of Chicago has played in 41 games with five goals and five assists for 10 points. As a freshman in 2010-11, Allen scored two goals while adding four assists in 31 games.

The Hockey East weekly honor is the first for Allen who becomes the first UMass defenseman since Justin Braun (3/8/10) to be named the league's overall Player Of The Week.

UMass will host Maine this Friday at the Mullins Center with the opening faceoff set for 7 PM before heading to UMass Lowell on Saturday.
