AMHERST, Mass. - Football quarterback Liam Coen and hockey forward James Marcou have been named UMass/Dinn Bros. Co-Athletes of the Week following stellar performances in their teams' blowout wins over the weekend. Coen impressed in his final collegiate game in his home state (at the University of Rhode Island) while Marcou recorded eight points (3g, 5a) in a home-and-home sweep of Providence. The pair will be honored at the Weekly Sports Luncheon on Wednesday at 12 noon held in the Cape Cod Room of the Student Union.

Coen marked his return to Rhode Island in style with a sensational 15-for-17, 241 yard, and three touchdown performance. His 88.2% completion percentage was the second-best mark in school history, only trailing Tim Day's 89.4% effort on Sept. 4, 2004 at Delaware State. The Minutemen took a quick 14-0 lead after one quarter and were up 35-0 at the half on their way to the 49-0 shutout victory. Coen played through the first drive of the second half, leaving with a 42-0 lead. The CAA also honored Coen as its Offensive Player of the Week.

Marcou helped the Mass Attack hockey team erase a 4-3 second-period deficit with six unanswered goals in a 9-4 win in Friday's home opener at the Mullins Center. He then added a goal and two assists in Saturday's 5-1 win at Providence. In total, he finished with two goals and three assists on Friday to go along with the goal and two helpers from Saturday. Marcou, who had a hand in 57% (8-of-14) of UMass' goals over the weekend, was also honored by Hockey East on Monday by being named CCM/RBK Player of the Week.

Coen and Marcou will be honored, along with their coaches, at the UMass Sports Luncheon, held this week in the Cape Cod Room of the Student Union. The luncheons, which begin at noon on Wednesdays, are open to the public. For the $10 cost attendees receive a salad-to-dessert meal. Football head coach Don Brown, men's basketball head coach Derek Kellogg, and women's basketball head coach Marnie Dacko are this week's scheduled speakers.
