Sheary Named 2013-14 UMass Hockey Captain
Oct. 18, 2013
AMHERST, Mass. - UMass hockey head coach John Micheletto has announced that Conor Sheary will serve as the team's captain for the 2013-14 campaign. The senior forward has been a fixture in the Minutemen's lineup for the past three-plus seasons, missing just one of a possible 107 games of his career thus far, and will wear the "C" for the first time tonight in the squad's home opener vs. Michigan State.
"I'm happy for Conor to receive this sort of validation for his hard work and for being a good teammate," said Micheletto. "More so, I'm excited for our team who I'm sure will thrive with his leadership style. UMass hockey is in good hands with Conor Sheary as its captain."
Sheary has totaled 77 career points thus far in his time wearing the Maroon & White, including 29 goals, nine coming on the power play. After logging an assist last weekend at #1 UMass Lowell, Sheary is now just two shy of his 50th of his career. He has played in 101 straight contests, including all 34 last season and all 36 as a sophomore.
Sheary ranks 28th all-time in UMass history in career points, 24th in assists and 16th in power-play goals. He holds a +2 rating for his career and was +15 as a sophomore in 2011-12.
The Minutemen play host to Michigan State for their home opener at the Mullins Center tonight at 7 p.m.
