Oct. 16, 2012
AMHERST, Mass. - UMass hockey head coach John Micheletto has announced that Rocco Carzo and Kevin Czepiel will serve as the team's co-captains for the 2012-13 season. The senior forwards have each played in over 90 career games and will wear the "C"s for the first time on Friday night when the Minutemen take the ice vs. #3 Boston College.
"Rocco and Kevin have impacted our team positively with their workmanlike approach and positive outlook," said Micheletto. "Their teammates have recognized their leadership qualities thus far and have voiced their support for the two of them. I'm as excited for Kevin and Rocco to receive this recognition as I am for our team to be led and represented by them."
Carzo, who has seen action in 93 contests over three-plus season in Amherst, has totaled 29 career points on nine goals and 20 assists. As a junior in 2011-12, the Media, Pa., native had seven points (two goals, five assists) over 29 contests.
Czepiel, who hails from nearby Holyoke, Mass., has seen action in 94 career games thus far in his time with the Minutemen. With five goals and 13 assists, he currently has 18 career points to his credit.
UMass will look to improve upon its 1-0-0 record when the squad takes on the defending National Champion Eagles on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Mullins Center, the Minutemen's annual Operation 8K game.
