AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass hockey team kicked off the start of the 2013-14 season with its annual Maroon & White scrimmage on Sunday afternoon at the Mullins Center Practice Rink. Two 17-minute periods were played and saw the White team claim a 4-2 victory over Maroon. Following the contest, fans in attendance had the opportunity to meet and greet with the Minutemen at an autograph session.

Junior Oleg Yevenko had the first goal of the day for either squad on a hard shot from the point off a feed from redshirt junior Steven Guzzo to give White a 1-0 advantage.

Redshirt freshman Frank Vatrano then widened the lead to 2-0 for White 10 minutes into the first with freshman Steven Iacobellis picking up the assist.

Following the intermission, Iacobellis added his second point of the day scoring the third goal of the game for the White squad from junior Zack LaRue.

Sophomore Shane Walsh increased White's advantage to 4-0 with his top shelf tally five minutes into the second.

Both goals for the Maroon squad came in the final seven minutes of the contest. Seniors Conor Sheary and Michael Pereira set up classmate Joel Hanley's goal for Maroon with 6:30 remaining.

Senior Peter DeAngelo's unassisted goal for Maroon capped off the scoring.

UMass opens up its 2013-14 campaign at Boston University this Friday, Oct. 11, at 7:30 p.m.
