AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass hockey team held an intersquad scrimmage at the Mullins Center Practice Rink on Saturday night, with the White squad defeating the Maroon squad by a score of 2-1. Netting the game-winning goal on the powerplay was Conor Sheary. The goal was assisted by Michael Marcou and came at 9:56 in the third period.

The first two 12 minute periods were played with all penalties resulting in penalty shots while the 15 minute third period was played with alternating one-minute powerplay situations.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first period as Maroon goalie Jeff Teglia and White goalie Kevin Boyle each had nine saves.

In the second period, the White squad took an early edge as Eddie Olczyk scored the first goal of the game on a penalty shot at 11:25 against goaltender Kevin Moore. Teglia made three key saves in the period, two on penalty shots, keeping the Maroon squad in the game.

Branden Gracel tied the game up at 1-1 with a powerplay goal at 9:16, while Sheary scored the game-winner for White just 50 seconds later.

Jeff Teglia and Kevin Boyle each had 19 saves and Kevin Moore recorded one save for the game. Each goalie gave up one goal.

The team will head to Northeastern this Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Boston, Mass. for the season opener.
