AMHERST, Mass. - In preparation for the upcoming 2013-14 season, which will begin at Boston University on Friday, Oct. 11, the UMass hockey team will hold its Maroon & White game this Sunday, Oct. 6, at noon in the Mullins Center Practice Rink. Admission to the scrimmage is free.

An autograph session will be held following the scrimmage and marketing and sales representatives will be on hand to assist those who are interested in purchasing season tickets or mini plans. Season ticket holders will be able to pick up their 2013-2014 season ticket holder gift at the event, as well.

The UMass hockey team is powered by veterans in the squad's second season under head coach John Micheletto, with 18 players returning for 2013-14, including 16 juniors and seniors. Within that group, the Minutemen bring back their top-three leading scorers from a year ago in seniors Branden Gracel, Conor Sheary and Michael Pereira. Gracel is coming off a breakout junior campaign that saw him log a team-best 34 points (14 goals, 20 assists) and rank among the national leaders in faceoff percentage while also garnering Hockey East Honorable Mention All-Star recognition.

Seniors Joel Hanley and Colin Shea highlight a UMass defense that includes five returnees, three of whom saw action in 30+ games last season. Hanley and Shea both chipped in 10+ points from the blueline in 2012-13 with Shea's 13 (3g. 10 a) marking a new career high.
