AMHERST, Mass. - UMass hockey has added 5-9, 170-pound forward Steven Iacobellis of the Salmon Arm SilverBacks of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) to its roster, UMass head coach John Micheletto announced on Wednesday. A native of Burnaby, British Columbia, Iacobellis joins Brennan Baxandall, Marc Hetnik, Alex Wakaluk and Brandon Wahlin as the fifth member of the Minutemen's Class of 2017.
"Steven's been an offensive leader throughout the course of his career," said Micheletto. "He's been offensively productive every step of the way and was Salmon Arm's Unsung Hero award winner this year, which speaks to his determination as well as his productivity. He is going to add to our grit and get after it out of our forward group and his speed and offensive creativity will certainly help the players around him be better."
Iacobellis appeared in 155 career games in the BCHL, totaling 106 points on 37 goals and 69 assists combined in his time with the Penticton Vees (2010-11), Cowichan Valley Captains (2011-13) and Salmon Arm SilverBacks. This season with the SilverBacks, he logged his most productive season in the BCHL with 42 points (15g, 27a) over 35 regular season contests, including three game winners.
