UMass Hockey Announces 2009-10 Schedule

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass hockey team will play 15 home dates including seven of the first nine games as the 2009-10 schedule has been released on Friday. The season officially begins on Saturday, Oct. 3 as the Minutemen host New Brunswick for an exhibition game in the practice rink at 6 PM. The first game of the regular season will be five days later as Renesselaer visits the Mullins Center.
Defending national champion Boston University will visit UMass on Friday, Oct. 16 followed by Maine on Friday Oct. 23. The October home schedule will close out as Providence returns to the Mullins Center on Oct. 31 for another fan favorite Halloween Night match-up.
November starts will the Minutemen facing Niagara in a home-and-home series. The Purple Eagles travel to Amherst on Friday, Nov. 6, while the Minutemen will head to Niagara for an afternoon title two days later.
The following weekend, Hockey East rival New Hampshire visits the Mullins Center for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday nights.
The remainder of the month will see UMass on the road playing at Yale (Thurs., Nov. 19), at Vermont (Tues., Nov. 24) and at Quinnipiac (Sat., Nov. 28).
A road trip to UMass Lowell on Saturday, Dec. 5 will begin December, while the Minutemen return home a week later to host Merrimack before taking two weeks off for exams and Christmas Vacation.
UMass closes out December and gears up for 2010 with an appearance at the UConn Tournament on Dec. 29-30. UMass will face Union on Tuesday and either UConn or Bentley on Wednesday.
January once again means the Hockey East race jumps into high gear.
Four of UMass' first five games in the month will be on the road starting Jan. 2 at Boston University. On Friday, Jan. 15 the Minutemen will host UMass Lowell at the Mullins Center.
A two-game home stand against Vermont begins on Saturday, Jan. 23, while the final game of that series will be on Sunday, Jan. 24.
Boston College and Northeastern begin the home slate for February. The Eagles visit on Friday, Feb. 5, while the Huskies come to the Mullins Center on Friday, Feb. 12.
UMass closes out the home schedule for the regular season on Feb. 27 against Boston College which will be Senior Night for the Minutemen.
The regular season will close out on March 5-6 at Maine, while the Hockey East Quarterfinals will begin a week later at Campus sites of the four top-seeded teams.
