UMass Hockey Inks Baxandall
July 1, 2013
AMHERST, Mass. - UMass hockey has announced that 6-2, 205-pound defenseman Brennan Baxandall of the Drumheller Dragons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Minutemen. Baxandall, a native of Calgary, Alberta, joins Marc Hetnik, Alex Wakaluk and Brandon Wahlin as the fourth member of the squad's Class of 2017.
"Brennan Baxandall is a veteran and versatile player who will bring a good amount of grit and competitiveness to our blueline," said UMass head coach John Micheletto. "He is a veteran who played 174 games of junior hockey with 74 points over the course of that junior career and well over 300 penalty minutes, certainly showing his ability to get after it and add tempo. He's worn a letter in his last two years at Drumheller, something we look very much towards implementing into our leadership corps over the course of his years here. Brennan is a great character kid who is going to add a tough but skilled element to our back end and we're excited to welcome him to our family."
Baxandall played in a total of 159 regular season games and 15 playoff contests over the course of four seasons for Drumheller and totaled 74 points on 22 goals and 52 assists, including four game winners and eight power-play tallies. The blueliner finished third on the Dragons' squad in assists and sixth in points in 2012-13 and was a finalist for the AJHL's MVP award. Baxandall served as Drumheller's captain this past season and was an assistant captain in 2011-12.
