Pond Club/UMass Hockey Golf Tournament To Be Held June 9th
May 20, 2008
Dear Friends of Massachusetts Hockey:
Greetings from Amherst! It's time again to prepare for this year's second major fund-raiser, the 8th annual Pond Club Golf Outing. The reverse raffle was extremely well supported this Spring and we look forward to another great event with our Golf Outing.
We have a couple of changes to the event this year that we think will make it an even more enjoyable day for all participating. Every golfer will receive his Mulligan & String at registration, no extra charge. This will speed up the registration process considerably. We were forced to raise the price for players this year from $150 to $175 due to increased costs passed along from the Orchards. We have held fast on hole and corporate sponsorships prices for those of you who wish to sponsor a portion of this event.
Thus, the University of Massachusetts Hockey Team and the Pond Club would like to take this opportunity to invite you to our 8th Annual Pond Club Golf Tournament to raise funds for our hockey program. We are proud to announce that this year's event is again being held Monday June 9th at the Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, site of the 2004 Women's US Open Golf Tournament. The Orchards was designed by legendary golf course architect, Donald Ross, and opened in 1922. In the last two years, we've raised approximately $26,000 with this event.
Every golfer will receive a complimentary gift for participating in this year's event. Each golfer will also receive a sleeve of UMass logo golf balls, pre-tournament breakfast, and the post tournament dinner, Mulligan, string, all part of this package. Prizes will be awarded to winning teams, for the longest drive (men's and ladies), and closest to the pin contests on selected holes. We will also offer you an opportunity to compete directly against yours truly on the par three tenth hole. Those of you who choose to enter a special raffle and dare to compete against me in a closest to the pin challenge on number 10 will have the opportunity to win a very special prize. My performance last year was the worst of my career but I promise to be a more gritty competitor this year. Also, we have secured numerous items including sports memorabilia, gift certificates, and other prizes to be raffled off or bid for in silent auction.
We seek corporate sponsors, hole sponsors, and golfers for this year's event. The following page outlines the various participation options for you and instructions on how to register. We want this year's tournament to be our best ever and we need your generous participation. The golf fees cover the cost of the event and most of our profit comes from corporate sponsorships, hole sponsorships, raffle ticket sales, mulligan sales, etc. I am personally looking forward to seeing you on June 9th for a great day of golfing fun, camaraderie, and benefit to our program.
