Brandon Wahlin Signs With UMass Hockey

AMHERST, Mass. - Brandon Wahlin, a 5-9, 175-pound forward from White Bear Lake, Minn., has signed a National Letter of Intent with the UMass hockey program, head coach John Micheletto announced on Thursday. Wahlin will join the Minutemen this fall as a member of the Class of 2017.
"Brandon is a dynamic and creative offensive player who has certainly rounded out his game over the course of his two years in Austin," said Micheletto. "He's going to be an impact two-way player for us that can get after it on the defensive end,turn pucks over and get us headed north in transition as quickly has he can. His speed is going to be an element that we rely on an awful lot moving forward. For all of those reasons, we're excited to add Brandon to our family."
Wahlin recently completed his second season with the Austin Bruins of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) and finished as the club's all-time leading scorer with 109 career points (33 goals, 76 assists) in 115 career regular season games, while also contributing nine points in 15 career postseason contests. He was a two-time NAHL Top Prospect Tournament selection during his two-year stint with the Bruins
In 2012-13, Wahlin helped the Bruins to a 42-11-7 record and a Central Division regular season crown with a team-best 69 points over 52 games on 20 goals and 49 assists, including 34 power-play points. He ranked second in the league in points and assists and was one of six players to earn a spot on the 2012-13 All-NAHL Team.
Prior to his time in Austin, Wahlin played two seasons at White Bear Lake High School and logged 112 points (56g, 56a) over 59 contests.
