March 29, 2012
AMHERST, Mass. - UMass hockey's Michael Marcou has signed an amateur tryout agreement with the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League, the team announced on Wednesday. The senior defenseman is the second member of the Mass Attack to sign with an AHL team this spring as T.J. Syner joined the Hershey Bears earlier this month.
Marcou totaled 21 points on six goals and 15 assists in 34 games in his final campaign with the Minutemen and his +6 rating on the year was second best among all UMass defensemen this season. He was named UMass Athlete of Week on Jan. 9 after lifting the Minutemen to a dramatic win over Vermont at Frozen Fenway with his overtime tally.
Marcou finished his four-year career with 17 goals, 26 assists and 43 points over 117 games.
