COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Massachusetts was defeated by No. 5 Colorado College on Friday night in front of 6,002 fans at World Arena. The Tigers were able to get on the board just 18 seconds into the contest and broke a 1-1 tie with 18 seconds remaining in the opening frame to regain the lead they would not relinquish. With the loss, UMass falls to 6-7-1 overall.

Captain Stephen Werner (Chevy Chase, Md.) scored the lone Minuteman goal, his fifth of the season, at 18:43 of the first to knot it at one. Werner's goal was set up by Craig MacDonald (Canton, Mass.) and Matt Anderson (West Islip, N.Y.).

Brett Sterling's goal at 19:41 of the first became the gamewinner for the Tigers, as they sealed the game with a late goal by Aaron Slattengren at 19:16 of the second. Slattengren notched the opening goal for CC as well.

Both teams were scoreless in the third.

Junior Gabe Winer (Stoughton, Mass.) made 18 saves for UMass (six in each period), while Curtis McElhinney stopped 21 in the game for Colorado College. Both teams were unable to convert with the man advantage, with the Minutemen going 0-for-4 and successfully killing off all seven CC power plays.

Colorado College (9-2-0) now leads the all-time series 4-0-0, with all games being played in Colorado Springs.

The Minutemen return to the ice on Saturday night, Nov. 27, when they face the defending NCAA champion Denver Pioneers. Game time is set for 7:05 MST at Magness Arena (6,026). Fox Sports Net Rocky Mountain will be broadcasting the game.
