LOWELL, Mass. - UMass Lowell defeated the University of Massachusetts, 1-0, in Hockey East action tonight at Tsongas Arena.

Ed McGrane scored his seventh goal of the season four minutes into the game with No. 10 UMass Lowell on the power play. McGrane banged home a loose puck from just outside the crease. Peter Hay and Dan Fontas assisted on the goal.

Both goaltenders dominated the remainder of the game. UMass senior goaltender Mike Johnson (Excelsior, Minn.) made 18 saves in the losing effort, while UMass Lowell goaltender Cam McCormick made 24 saves for the shutout. McCormick has yet to allow a goal this season with three consecutive shutouts.

The victory improves UMass Lowell to 6-2-0 overall and 4-2-0 in Hockey East, while the loss drops Massachusetts to 4-5-0 overall and 2-2-0 in Hockey East.

The two teams return to action on Saturday, Nov. 17, in a 7:00 p.m. rematch at the Mullins Center.
