#20 Mass Attack, UMass Lowell Skate To 3-3 Tie

LOWELL, Mass. - For the second time this season, the #20 UMass hockey team and UMass Lowell played to an overtime tie as the teams fought to a 3-3 finish at Tsongas Arena on Saturday night. Will Ortiz, Justin Braun, and James Marcou each netted goals for UMass, while Chris Davis had two assists on the night. Kory Falite scored twice for the River Hawks and Patrick Cey had two assists. The Minutemen are now 4-2-3 overall and 2-1-3 in Hockey East, while UML goes to 2-2-3 overall and 0-2-3 in league action.
Falite started the scoring for UML just over eight minutes into the first period. Ortiz equalized on the power play nearly four minutes later and the first period ended at 1-1.
Justin Braun netted his second goal of the season 1 minute, 45 seconds into the second period before Mike Potacco scored halfway through the period to tie the game at 2-2. Chris Davis was credited with assists on both of UMass' first goals.
UML took a 3-2 lead 5:17 into the third period when Falite scored his second goal. Marcou scored his second goal of the season four minutes later to tie the game at 3-3.
Both teams fought through a scoreless overtime period that began with penalties on Cory Quirk and UML's Ben Holmstrom in the face-off circle before the puck was dropped.
Paul Dainton recorded 25 saves for UMass, while Nevin Hamilton stopped 36 shots for the River Hawks.
UMass will host Boston College next Friday at the Mullins Center. Gametime is set for 7 p.m.
