Hockey Falls To UConn 3-2 In Overtime

AMHERST - UConn's Cole Koidahl slapped in the game-winning goal with five seconds remaining in overtime as the Huskies defeated UMass 3-2 on Sunday afternoon in the Mullins Center.

UConn picked up its first win of the season, 1-2-1, while UMass fell to 3-2-0 with the loss.

Koidahl's shot came just after UConn called a time-out with 11-seconds remaining in overtime. Chris Uber and Tim Olsen set-up the shot.

UMass jumped to a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the game as sophomore Kevin Jarman (Aurora, Ontario) scored his first goal of the season on a UM powerplay.


Just over three minutes later, UConn answered as Tim Olsen scored an even strength goal - his second goal of the season.

The Huskies took a 2-1 lead just over three minutes into the second period when Olsen again scored.

Freshman Matt Burto (Orange, Conn.) hit the equalizer in the 15th minute of the period knotting the score at two each.

Both teams faced a flurry of shots in the third period, but neither could end the game in regulation. UConn took 40 shots for the game, while UMass fired 36 - both teams took three shots in the overtime period.

Senior Tim Warner (Waltham, Mass.) had 33 saves in goal for the Minutemen, while Brad Smith posted 38 for the Huskies.


UMass returns to action on Friday, Oct. 29 when the Minutemen travel to Providence. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. The two teams will the face-off in the Mullins Center on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
