COLORADO SPRINGS, Col. - Colorado College scored four power-play goals en route to a 7-1 victory over the University of Massachusetts in hockey action tonight at the Colorado Springs World Arena.

Seventh-ranked Colorado College opened a 4-0 lead when Peter Sejna netted a goal at the 7:08 mark of the second period. Alex Kim had already netted two first period power-play goals and Colin Stuart added a power-play tally early in the second.

Massachusetts cut into the Tigers lead when freshman Matt Walsh (Arlington, Mass.) scored his first collegiate goal. Junior assistant captain Samuli Jalkanen (Helsinki, Finland) started the play with a breakout pass to sophomore Scott Horvath (West Redding, Conn.) at the UMass blue line. Horvath then made a pass that sent Walsh in on a breakaway. Walsh got the goaltender to go down, then roofed a shot just under the crossbar.

The Tigers responded when Trent Clark scored another power-play goal to make the score 5-1 heading into the third period. Colorado College added two more goals in the final period. Sejna and Tom Presissing each finished the game with a goal and three assists while Mark Cullen had three assists.

UMass freshman goaltender Tim Warner (Waltham, Mass.) made 28 saves, and Tigers goaltender Curtis McElhinney made 24 saves. It was the collegiate debut for both goaltenders. The victory improves Colorado College to 2-2-0 overall, while the loss drops Massachusetts to 1-2-0 on the season.

Massachusetts returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 28, when it travels to Providence College for a 4:00 p.m. game. It is the Hockey East opener for the Minutemen.
