Hockey Falls 2-1 At No. 11 Boston University
Feb. 19, 2005
BOSTON - During their first-ever trip to Agganis Arena, the Minutemen fell to No. 11 Boston University 2-1 on Saturday night. Kevin Jarman put UMass (11-19-2, 5-14-2 Hockey East) on the board in the first, but the Terriers regained the lead in the second for their 20th win of the season.
The Terriers broke open the scoring at 14:30 of the first when Dan Spang intercepted a pass by UMass attempting to clear the zone. The unassisted goal gave B.U. a short-lived one-goal lead.
Jarman's goal at 18:40 evened it up at one. With traffic in front of the Boston University net, the sophomore collected a pass from Marvin Degon (Millbury, Mass.) and beat John Curry. James Solon (Acton, Mass.) also assisted on the goal. Neither team added to the tally through the remainder of the period.
B.U. regained the one-goal lead just 1:46 into the middle period. Eric Thomassian passed the puck from behind the UMass net to Kenny Roche between the circles. Roche beat Gabe Winer (Stoughton, Mass.) for his fourth goal of the season and the only goal of the period.
The Minutemen tried to force overtime by utilizing the extra skater late in the game, but Boston University held on for the win.
Shots were 24-19 in favor of the Terriers. Neither team scored on the power play as both teams were 0-for-2.
Next weekend, the Minutemen take a brief break from Hockey East action when they travel to Buffalo, N.Y. to take on the Niagara Purple Eagles on Saturday afternoon. The conference regular season concludes the following week when UMass plays Northeastern in a pair of league games.
