BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts fell to Northeastern University on Thursday night by the score of 2 to 1. Kevin Jarman scored for the Minutemen for the 1-0 lead, but the Huskies put up two unanswered goals in the second for the win. Gabe Winer (Stoughton, Mass.) made 20 saves in net for UMass (10-16-2, 4-11-2 Hockey East).

The teams played through a penalty-free first, with shots 11-8 in favor of the Minutemen heading into the locker room.

Kevin Jarman (Aurora, Ont.) opened the game scoring 4:03 into the middle period to put UMass up 1-0. With traffic in front of the Northeastern net, captain Stephen Werner (Chevy Chase, Md.) flipped the puck to Jarman who put the puck past Keni Gibson. Werner's assist brought his career points total to 84, tying him with Jeff Blanchard for No. 14 all-time in the Massachusetts record books.

The Huskies quickly got back in the game 1:14 later while skating on the power play. With P.J. Fenton (Longmeadow, Mass) in the box for hooking, Jason Guerriero made it 1-1 at 5:17, his goal assisted by Jared Mudryk and Mike Morris.

Northeastern closed out the period with a shorthander to make it 2-1. While UMass was afforded a late power play for obstruction interference on NU, Morris caught Winer high for his second point of the night and the go-ahead goal at 19:28.

The 2-1 score stood through the remainder of the game. Shots were 29-22 in favor of the Minutemen. UMass was 0-for-2 on the power play, while NU was 1-for-2 with the man advantage. Both teams were whistled for nine penalties, 18 minutes.

Massachusetts is back on the road this Saturday when they take on Merrimack in North Andover, Mass.
