Minutemen Drop 6-0 Decision To No. 1 Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - UMass Hockey fell to 10-15-2 overall, 4-10-2 in Hockey East after Friday night's 6-0 loss to Boston College. Junior forward Patrick Eaves registered two goals and one assist to lead the top-ranked Eagles over Massachusetts before 5,308 fans in Kelley Rink.

BC (17-3-4, 11-1-4 Hockey East) led 1-0 after one period, before adding four goals in a decisive second period.

With the victory, BC extended its unbeaten streak to 13 games (11-0-2).

The Eagles finished 2-for-8 on the power play, while holding Massachusetts scoreless on eight power-play opportunities.

Senior Dave Spina opened the scoring at 16:28. Eaves doubled the BC advantage at 4:08 of the second period.

Freshman Pat Gannon netted his first collegiate goal at 9:41, before Eaves scored his second goal of the night - on the power play - at 10:23. Junior Stephen Gionta made the score 5-0 at 14:00.

Sophomore Brian Boyle finished the scoring at 2:55 of the final period, netting his team-leading eighth power-play goal.

Spina added one assist to his game-winning goal, while freshman defenseman Mike Brennan added two assists.

UMass senior goalie Tim Warner made 19 saves in his first start since Nov. 23 at Vermont, while allowing five goals in 40:00. Freshman Jamie Gilbert made four stops and allowed one goal in the third period.

Senior Matti Kaltiainen made 19 saves in 53:06 to record his ninth victory of the season. Classmate Robbie Miller made three saves in the game's final 6:54, his first appearance of the season.

UMass returns to action next Thursday on the road when they face Northeastern. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
