UMass Lowell Prevails 6-1 Over Hockey

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts hockey team fell 6-1 to #15/15 UMass Lowell on Saturday night in the Mullins Center.
The Minutemen fall to 10-13-2 overall and 4-8-2 in Hockey East, while the River Hawks improve to 14-5-3 overall and 5-5-1 in the league.
UMass Lowell took the season series among the state rivals, 2-1, and extended its nation's-best unbeaten streak to 13 games.
Ben Walter recorded a hat trick on the night, scoring a pair of goals in the first period and another in the third.
Jason Tejchma scored in the first period to put the River Hawks up 2-0 with five minutes remaining in the period - one of three first period goals for UMass Lowell.
Elias Godoy tallied in the second period, his fifth of the year, putting the River Hawks up 4-0 before Walter notched his 22nd goal of the season in the third period.
For the River Hawks, Bobby Robins scored the final goal for UMass Lowell giving them the 6-0 lead.
The Minutemen avoided the shutout when freshman P.J. Fenton (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored his 10th goal of the season to cut the lead to 6-1 at the 18:44 mark.
Fenton leads UMass in league scoring with seven goals and five assists. He now has 19 total points on the year.
The Minutemen will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 27 against Boston College in the Mullins Center.
