UMass and Providence met for the 50th time in the series. With the loss, UMass is now 17-30-3 all-time vs. the Friars who take the season series 2-0-1. The Friars won both games at Schneider Arena.
For UMass it was the third consecutive loss marking the first time since March 2006 that the Minutemen lost three straight games.
Neither team scored in the first half despite Providence holding an 11-to-4 shot advantage. In games this season where neither team scores in the first period, UMass is 1-3-3. It was the eighth time this season that UMass kept its opponent scoreless in the first period.

The assist for Kostka gives him 35 for his career and moves him into 31st all-time at UMass.
The assist for Quirk moves him into a tie for 35th all-time at UMass in career points (59) and into a tie for 39th all-time in career assists (31).
