Darren Yopyk enters his second season as a member of the University of Massachusetts staff after having played four years at Princeton and served as captain of the Tigers during the 1999-2000 season.
Yopyk played under Don Cahoon and Mark Dennehy at Princeton, where he was one of the team's best defensemen. He finished his career with seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points. Yopyk was a member of the 1997-98 team that won the school's first-ever ECAC title en route to the program's only NCAA Tournament appearance.
Prior to Princeton, Yopyk played in the Alberta Junior Hockey League from 1994-96, where he was an AJHL all-star and the league's highest scoring defenseman in 1995. Yopyk attended St. Paul Regional H.S. where he was an honor student all four years.
Yopyk graduated from Princeton in 2000 with a Bachelor's degree in psychology. He is currently working in the psychology department at Amherst College and taking graduated courses at UMass.
Yopyk was born June 25, 1976 in St. Paul, Alberta. He currently resides in Amherst.
