Meet UMass hockey freshman defenseman Maddison Smiley

BEFORE UMASS: Spent four seasons playing in the Alberta Junior Hockey League, the final three with the Brooks Bandits (2011-14) alongside current UMass teammate Patrick Lee ... Totaled 86 career points in the AJHL on 36 goals and 50 assists over 121 games ... Appeared in 39 career postseason contests, logging 25 points (10g, 15a) ... Served as the Bandits' assistant captain for two seasons (2012-14) ... In 2012-13, helped Brooks to a second straight AJHL league championship as well as the 2013 RBC Cup National championship ... Was named the 2012-13 AJHL Playoff MVP after recording 14 points (6g, 8a) over 17 playoff contests .... Earned the AJHL's Sportsmanship Award in 2012-13, the "Stewy Stewart Trophy" ... In the Fall of 2013, played for Canada West in the World Junior A Challenge that took home a Bronze medal.
