AMHERST, Mass. - Senior Meghan Collins of the women's soccer team and senior Emil Igwenagu of the football team have been named the UMass Fall Scholar-Athletes for 2011. The pair was honored this past week at the UMass Sports Luncheon.

Collins, a marketing major, collected several postseason accolades after helping the Minutewomen post their most successful season since 1997 with a record of 14-5-2 and a runner-up performance in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. She was recently tabbed an NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region second team defender after previously being honored as first team All-New England, first team All-Atlantic 10 and earning a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Tournament team. The co-captain was one of five players to start all 21 games in 2011 and totaled five points on two goals and one assist, which included one game-winner.

Igwenagu is a Kinesiology major who served his second season as a co-captain for football this fall. The tight end posted career highs in receptions (38) and yards (375) with three touchdowns in 2011 and was selected to the All-CAA First Team. He was previously honored by the conference as a member of the CAA Academic All-Conference team in 2009.
