Jette Honored As CFPA Honorable Mention Defensive Back Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. - Redshirt sophomore cornerback Randall Jette was named one of the College Football Performance Awards Honorable Mention Players of the Week after a standout performance for the UMass football team on Saturday against Akron. The native of Oak Bluffs, Mass., made six tackles, forced two fumbles recovering one of them, and broke up two passes in the Minutemen's 14-13 loss against the Zips at Gillette Stadium.
Jette is one of the top tackle leaders for UMass this season with 39 after having started all 10 games in 2013. He leads the Minutemen defense with 11 pass break-ups and 12 passes defended. Counting his fumble recovery on Saturday, he now has three for the year along with one interception and a blocked PAT.
After redshirting the 2011 campaign, Jette has started 22 consecutive games at cornerback. He has 92 career tackles and three interceptions entering the Central Michigan game to go with 15 career pass break-ups and 18 passes defended.
His two forced fumbles against Akron marked the first time a Minuteman had done so in a game since Tyler Holmes against Holy Cross on Sept. 11, 2010.
UMass and Central Michigan will kick-off at 1:00 PM on Saturday with the game being streamed online by ESPN.com and on mobile devices via the WatchESPN app. The UMass Sports Network will also carry the game with the pregame show beginning at 12:40 PM.
