 Weekly Game Notes - UMass Hosts High-Powered No. 21 Northern Illinois At Gillette Stadium

• After a tough 31-30 loss against Western Michigan, the UMass football team returns to Gillette Stadium on Saturday afternoon (Noon) to host its first-ever ranked FBS opponent as No. 21 Northern Illinois visits Foxboro.

• The game will be televised in the Springfield area on WGGB Fox 6 as part of an ESPN Regional Production. The game will air in several other markets around the country, on the ESPN Game Plan subscription service, on and via the WatchESPN app.

• The UMass Sports Network will once again feature Voice of the Minutemen Josh Maurer handling play-by-play duties alongside analyst Matt Goldstein, sideline reporter Cody Chrusciel and in-game host Adam Frenier. The game can be heard live starting at 11:40 AM (EST) on 105.5 FM WEEI (Springfield), 1440 AM WVEI (Worcester) and 95.9 FM WATD (South Shore). The broadcast is also available online through and on smart phones and tablets through the TuneIn app.

• The Huskies won last year's meeting 63-0 in DeKalb thanks to 610 total yards by the NIU offense. Heisman candidate Jordan Lynch threw for 191 yards and two touchdowns while running for 157 more yards and a third touchdown. Mike Wegzyn led UMass with 137 yards in the air, while Michael Cox had 81 yards rushing. The Huskies opened the game with three second quarter touchdowns to lead 35-0 at halftime before adding three more in the third.

• The Minutemen are coming off a tough 31-30 loss against Western Michigan last Saturday at Gillette. Trailing in the final moments of the game, UMass mounted a game-tying drive that was capped by freshman running back Lorenzo Woodley's first career touchdown. UMass went for the win with a two-point conversion with 22 seconds remaining, but were unable to convert the play handing the Broncos their first win of the season. Rob Blanchflower had a career day with 131 yards receiving and a touchdown, while Khary Bailey-Smith returned the game's opening kick-off 90 yards for a touchdown.

• After Saturday's game, UMass will have a bye week before closing out its three-game homestand against Akron on Nov. 16 for Senior Day. 

• Regional television affiliates have been announced for UMass' home game against No. 21 Northern Illinois on Saturday (Noon) at Gillette Stadium. The game will be carried locally in the Springfield market on WGGB FOX6 as well as several other markets around the country.

• Additionally, the game can be watched as part of the ESPN GamePlan subscription service and online via or the WatchESPN mobile app.
