Griffin Selected FCS Senior Bowl Preseason All-American

AMHERST, Mass. - Senior UMass tailback John Griffin was named to the FCS Senior Scout Bowl Preseason All-American Team. Griffin and his new Minutemen teammates begin preseason camp on Sunday, Aug. 8 and open the regular-season on Sept. 4 vs. William & Mary. Griffin transferred to UMass after three seasons at Northeastern, where he was the only CAA player to rush for 1,000 yards in the regular-season in 2009. He ran for 1,009 yards on 207 carries with five touchdowns, while catching 25 passes for 178 yards during the 2009 campaign. Griffin was named First Team All-CAA, Northeastern's Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Player. He was also named to the 2009 New England Football Writers Football Championship Subdivision All-Star team Here is the official press release. The following players have been selected as preseason football All-Americans by the FCS Senior Scout Bowl selection committee. The FCS Senior Scout Bowl is a post season all-star game showcasing the talent of senior players from the NCAA FCS Division (formally 1-AA ) football level. This Bowl game is presented by the Collegiate Development Football League (www.playCDFL.com) and will be held December 11, 2010 at the Joseph St. Lawrence Sports Complex Stadium, in Ramapo, New York. Player selections for this showcase game begin with the announcement of the FCS Senior Scout Bowl All-American team members as listed below. This preseason team recognizes the football achievements of senior players who are entering their final season on the FCS level. The FCS Senior Scout Bowl selection committee will review player performance throughout the 2010 season. They have a committed effort to bring 86 of the top 2010 FCS players. represented in a North vs South game format, to the NYC metro area for this bowl game. Collegiate Development Football League co-founder, Peter St. Lawrence, stated the following during the July 25, 2010 press conference announcing this bowl game, " We are proud and excited to present this game for the players on the FCS level". " The FCS Senior Scout Bowl will showcase the outstanding talent, quality and character of football players found on the FCS Level." Peter St. Lawrence stated, "The announcement today of our FCS preseason All-American team, along with our established D3 Senior Classic game, reflects our continued commitment to promote the exceptional players found in college football beyond the BCS level".
Peter St. Lawrence added, " Our FCS Senior Scout Bowl selection committee will work diligently over the next months, to seek the most talented and deserving players for selection, from the graduating class of 2011. " The FCS Senior Scout Bowl organization committee has partnered with the Beyond Sports Network (BSN) for assistance in the player selection process. The BSN network (http://www.beyondsportsnetwork.com) will host a platform by which players can provide their profiles, general information, and updated stats for the selection committee to review. Last season the Collegiate Development Football League- D3 Senior Classic selection committee chose two players who were not on any All-American list; Brandon Drumgoole, defensive end, from Greensboro College, recently drafted by the Hartford Colonials of the UFL and Joel Rivera, wide receiver, from William Patterson College (NJ), a free agent selection of the New York Jets. FCS player invitations will begin to be mailed during the preseason and will continue until the November 15, 2010 commitment deadline.
