Johnson Named To CFPA Special Teams Watch List
July 6, 2013
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) announced UMass senior Colter Johnson as a member of the organization's 2013 Punter Trophy Watch List recently. The honor is the second recognition of the summer for Johnson, who was also tabbed a 2013 Preseason All-MAC recipient after averaging 43.8 yards per punt in 2012.
The Warren, Pa., native is one of six punters from the Mid-American Conference on the 36-person preseason list. Johnson, a member of the All-MAC Third Team as a junior, launched 64 punts for 2,803 yards in 2012 and tallied 19 attempts of 50 or more yards while 16 fell in the opponent's redzone.
The main objective of the College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Those chosen as recipients from the initial watch lists are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.
The Minutemen open the 2013 season at Wisconsin on Saturday, Aug. 31, before the home-opener at Gillette Stadium against Maine at 2 p.m. on Sept. 7. Tickets for the upcoming campaign are available through the UMass Ticket Office at 866-UMASS-TIX (866-862-7784) or the UMass Ticket Central.
