McGuirk Stadium Lighting Installation & Garber Field Renovation Underway
June 18, 2008
AMHERST, Mass. - The two big construction projects for the UMass athletic department this summer are now underway. The permanent lighting system at McGuirk Stadium has starting its installation as the digging and drilling has begun at the stadium. Over at Garber Field, the old bleachers and press box have been removed leading to the start of the construction of the new stands and press box.
Both projects are expected to be completed around August 1. At McGuirk Alumni Stadium, the lights are set to debut on August 30 for the team's season opener vs. Albany at 6 p.m., under the new lights. The digging and drilling at the foundation of McGuirk is well underway. Once the holes are dug the concrete will be poured to allow for the lighting poles to be hoisted later this summer. At Garber Field, the old bleachers and press box were removed during the first week of June. The pouring of the concrete foundation will begin shortly leading to the installation for the brand-new stands and press box. Check back for more updates this summer.
