Team Minutemen defeated Team UMass, 21-6, in the 2014 UMass football spring game on Wednesday, April 16 under the lights at McGuirk Alumni Stadium.

A.J. Doyle was 18-of-33 for 182 yards in the air with a touchdown and an interception. Todd Stafford and Andrew Verboys were the quarterbacks for Team Minutemen. Stafford was 3-of-7 for 66 yards and a touchdown, while Verboys was 5-of-9 for 60 yards and an interception.

On the ground, Shadrach Abrowkwah had 15 carries for 55 yards and a touchdown, while Lorenzo Woodley had 10 carries for 28 yards.

Jalen Williams and Shakur Nesmith each had touchdown receptions. Williams led all Team UMass receivers with 8 catches for 68 yards. He made a spectacular catch for Team UMass' touchdown as he leapt above two defenders and was able to tap a foot down in the end zone for the score. Nesmith caught a 15-yard touchdown from Stafford and finished the night with five catches for 57 yards.

Both defenses played well with a pair of touchdowns being scored off turnovers. Jesse Montiero gave Team Minutemen a 14-6 lead after scooping up a fumbled snap and returning it 15 yards for a touchdown with 6:27 left in the 3rd quarter.

With just over a minute to go in the game, Da'Sean Downey picked off a tipped pass at Team Minutemen's 46 yard line and then rumbled for another 40 yards before being tackled at the Team UMass 15 yard line. Downey excited fans with five tackles and a sack on the night as well.



Team UMass' defense was highlighted by five tackles from Stanley Andre, an interception by John Robinson-Woodgett and six tackles from Vondell Langston.
