Highlights From UMass Football's NFL Pro Day
March 6, 2013
FOXBORO, Mass. -
The UMass football team held its annual NFL Pro Day at Gillette Stadium's Dana-Farber Field House on Monday, March 4. The event was attended by scouts from 13 NFL teams who were on hand to check out the Minutemen's top senior talent as the NFL Draft will come up in just over six weeks.
Michael Cox, Perry McIntyre, Stephane Milhim, Quinton Sales, Nick Speller, Darren Thellen, Deion Walker, Alan Williams, and Hafis Williams took part in the Pro Day event. For Milhim, it was his second workout in front of scouts after taking part in the NFL Combine in Indianapolis just over a week ago.
UMass pro day gives NFL scouts another look at Milhim
FOXBOROUGH -- Last year it was offensive lineman Josh Samuda who used a performance at University of Massachusetts pro day to earn a spot in Miami Dolphins camp.
On Monday, nine Minutemen hoped to follow in their footsteps as they worked out for 13 NFL teams at the annual event.
Former UMass safety Thellen performs under the microscope at team's pro day
FOXBOROUGH - Darren Thellen has the biggest job interview of his life.
It will last less than 10 seconds.
Thellen, along with eight other seniors from the University of Massachusetts football team - Michael Cox, Perry McIntyre, Stephane Milhim, Quinton Sales, Nick Speller, Alan Williams, Hafis Williams and Deion Walker - is participating in drills in front of scouts from 14 NFL teams at the team's pro day, held Monday.
The workout lasts nearly three hours, but two 40-yard dash attempts are the centerpiece of Thellen's résumé.
NFL scouts check out UMass seniors
FOXBORO -- Darren Thellen's greatest strengths as an NFL prospect don't necessarily show up in a combine setting.
But that did not stop the UMass safety from thoroughly enjoying yesterday's pro day at Gillette Stadium. While his chances of being selected in next month's NFL draft are slim, yesterday's workout in front of scouts from 13 different organizations will go a long way in determining whether he gets snatched up as a free agent.
"Words can't explain this experience," Thellen said with a broad smile. "You always dream of a day like this and in my 23 years -- I turned 23 (in January) -- it's crazy. I'm speechless."
