Feb. 10, 2014

AMHERST, Mass. -

UMass football head coach Mark Whipple will be making several appearances around the Commonwealth in the upcoming weeks for a series of Meet & Greet events.

Fans will have the chance to spend time with Coach Whipple to discuss the upcoming season, talk about the incoming class of recruits, and connect with others.

All the events are free with light appetizers served at each event. Fans are encouraged to sign up through the Alumni Association's website.

Whipple was hired on Jan. 14 to take over the football program now entering its third year at the Football Bowl Subdivision level. He is well known by UMass fans and alums for guiding the Minutemen to the 1998 I-AA National Championship. In his first tenure with the Minutemen from 1998-2003, UMass won three Atlantic 10 titles and made three NCAA Play-off berths.

His task for his second term as UMass' head coach is to once again build the football program back into a championship caliber program. The coach known for his innovative offensive system and no-nonsense approach took the first step towards that goal in early February by signing 24 new players for the 2014 campaign.

The upcoming year promises to be an exciting one for the Minutemen. With three games returning back to campus at McGuirk Alumni Stadium this fall and three games at the world-famous Gillette Stadium, fans across the Commonwealth will have a chance to see UMass play. The season-opener on Aug. 30 will feature the Minutemen taking on Boston College at Gillette Stadium. Colorado will also visit Gillette, while UMass will head to Penn State and Vanderbilt.

Season tickets are on sale now with three great packages available: A 6-game plan, a McGuirk Stadium plan and a Gillette Stadium plan. Complete details and ordering information can be found at www.UMassAthletics.com/tickets.
