UMass Chancellor Subbaswamy Excited For Upcoming Spring Football Events

AMHERST, Mass. - With a full slate of events and progress planned for the upcoming spring, University of Massachusetts Chancellor Kumble R. Subbaswamy shared his excitement as the football program embarks on the next chapter of the Football Bowl Subdivision era.
"As the college football post-season concludes, the University of Massachusetts community is looking forward to preparing for a second season of competition in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Having successfully concluded our transitional first season, the Minutemen look forward to their first bowl eligible season at the FBS level next fall," said Chancellor Subbaswamy. "I am fully committed to working with Athletic Director John McCutcheon and Coach Molnar to ensure that our participation at the premier level of college football continues to be a source of pride for years to come for everyone associated with our great university. I look forward to seeing all of our old and new UMass fans next season as we build an outstanding football program together. GO UMASS!"
Highlighting the spring will be the announcement of the 2013 recruiting class by second-year head coach Charley Molnar and his coaching staff on Wednesday, February 6, 2013.
Molnar and his staff will introduce fans to the newest additions to the program as the Minutemen embark on their first season as full members of the Mid-American Conference following the two-year Football Bowl Subdivision transition period. The 2013 campaign will mark the first season of UMass being eligible for the MAC Championship and bowl games affiliated with the MAC.
The signing day event for fans will take place at the Amherst Brewing Company at 6 PM. Additionally, information on Spring Training Camp and the annual Spring Game will be available soon.
Season ticket information for 2013 along with construction updates on the McGuirk Stadium Press Box renovation and construction of the new UMass Football Fieldhouse will also come in the upcoming weeks.
UMass will open the 2013 season at Wisconsin on August 31. Home games at Gillette Stadium include Maine, Vanderbilt, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Akron, and Miami (Ohio).
