AMHERST, Mass. (AP) - Sean Gustus ran for 168 yards and a touchdown and threw a scoring pass to lead Richmond over Massachusetts 35-7 on Friday afternoon.

Gustus, an option quarterback, threw a 21-yard touchdown to Boyd Ouden in the second quarter, then finished the scoring for Richmond with a 63-yard run on the first play of the second half.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Richmond (3-8, 3-6 Atlantic 10), which limited Massachusetts (3-8, 3-6) to nine yards rushing. Richmond had 368 yards rushing on 68 carries.

The Spiders took a 7-0 first quarter lead when Scott Fulton capped a 14-play, 81-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown run. The drive was set up after Massachusetts quarterback Matt Guice fumbled on his own 19-yard line.

After Gustus's scoring pass to Ouden, J.R. Purnell ran for touchdowns of 2 and 14 yards to give Richmond a 28-0 halftime lead. Purnell had 76 yards on 15 carries.

Massachusetts' only score came in the third quarter on 31-yard pass from Guice to DeShon Hardy.

Guice completed 14 of 31 passes for 169 yards and two interceptions.
