UMass Head Coach Kevin Morris
On today's game
Well it's amazing what happens when you don't turn the ball over, right. We had two weeks where we had a bad stretch of turnovers and come out today and played turnover free until the end of the game and really played well both offense and defense and special teams. Guys played extremely hard, another great contribution from Armando and I was just told that he broke the school record. So congratulations to Armando for that. We had Tony back healthy and Kyle had a great day throwing the ball and spreading it around. We had a real strong performance, the type of performance we're looking for every week. It looks like we'll be in great shape for the next two games coming up.
UMass Quarterback Kyle Havens
On Tony Nelson being back healthy
Not so much Tony, no offense but being able to run the ball like that helps. It takes pressure off of me when its 3rd and 3 instead of 3rd and 10, you know what I mean? Being able to run the ball on 1st and 2nd down is huge.
On the decisive victory
I had a long week, but yeah it feels good. Definitely, if we can keep this rolling and not turn the ball over like we did today then I feel we'll be good for the next couple of weeks.
UMass Tailback Tony Nelson
On returning to full force
It was tough sitting out in my senior year, but I'm glad just to be back healthy and helping out the team. You can see the offense did a great job and pushing the ball up downfield and getting the ball into the end zone. The linemen did a great job, the backs did a great job and it felt real good to get back out there. You know there isn't anything mental to coming back. I trust my coaches and football is football. I wasn't concerned.
UMass Kicker Armando Cuko
On his record setting day
You know throughout the season you always think about how you're doing personally. You don't let it effect you too much because thinking about numbers would be putting more pressure on yourself. But yeah I kept an eye on it but I try not to think about breaking anything. If it comes my way it comes my way. I can't control how many chances I get.
Northeastern Head Coach Rocky Hager on the game:
Frustrating afternoon, all kinds of things you can point fingers at. The opportunities with the way some things were put together later in the afternoon. Defensively we had a couple situations where we were in the right situation but it didn't work out. Once again a special teams fake punt hurts us. Again we did not fit correctly there, its something UMass has run since Jesus was in sandals. Frank Focucci our defensive coordinator prepared us for this but we did not make the play.
I give them credit their defense had us off stride and out of sync. We had some things that worked early on, but early in the second quarter, late in the first quarter they made some adjustments. We were not as capable in our trips.
Our backups and there backups were playing so our future might be a little better than we initially thought. Frustrating day. Theres an awful lot of players who watched the game in sweat suits, we have to make it happen with the ones on the field. I'm not pleased with the way some things went together later in the afternoon.
