AMHERST, Mass. (AP) - Tim Day passed for four touchdowns and L.A. Love blocked an extra-point attempt in overtime as Massachusetts slipped past Maine 35-34 on Saturday.

The teams were tied at 28 at the end of regulation. In overtime, UMass (4-5, 2-4 Atlantic 10) got the ball first and went ahead 35-28 on a four-yard run by Steve Baylark.

Maine (4-4, 2-3) scored on a 25-yard run up the middle by Marcus Williams. The Black Bears then set up for Mike Mellow's point-after kick, which Love blocked.

Maine got on the scoreboard first on Ron Whitcomb's 32-yard pass to Christian Pereira with less than four minutes left in the first quarter. UMass pulled even at 7-7 in the second quarter with a 65-yard drive, capped by Day's three-yard pass to Steve Wysocki.

A 30-yard run by Williams finished an 84-yard drive that put Maine back on top 14-7 later in the first half.

With 1:03 left in the half, Day passed to Jason Peebler, who completed a 53-yard play to enable the Minutemen to get even at halftime.

Day had three more touchdown passes, the final one eight yards to J.J. Moore late in the fourth quarter, making the score 28-21.

Maine answered with 2:14 left on a 9-yard run by Williams, his fourth touchdown of the game, to tie the game at the end of regulation. He ended with 175 yards on 28 carries.
