Final Stats

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) - Rich Demers ran for 171 yards and two touchdowns Saturday as Massachusetts defeated William & Mary 24-14.

Jeff Krohn was 23-of-32 for 242 yards and one touchdown for the Minutemen (5-1, 4-0 Atlantic 10), who opened a 17-0 lead after three quarters and held off a late rally by the Tribe.

Lang Campbell was 23-of-29 for 265 yards for William & Mary (1-4, 0-3), which managed only 48 yards rushing.

Two 1-yard touchdown runs by Demers and a 29-yard field goal by Michael Torres gave the Minutemen a 17-0 lead with eight minutes left in the third period.

The Tribe cut the margin to three on Campbell's 51-yard touchdown pass to Steven Hargrove with 14:38 left and Nick Rogers' 14-yard run with 7:57 remaining, but the Minutemen drove 80 yards in nine plays on their next possession for the game's final score.

The Massachusetts drive was aided by a roughing-the-passer penalty after a 12-yard pass from Krohn to Jimmie Howard. Six plays later, Krohn and Dominique Stewart hooked up on a 23-yard TD pass on third-and-9.

Campbell completed five passes in a row to lead the Tribe to the Massachusetts 8, but the drive ended with a Steve Costello interception in the end zone with 2:43 left. William & Mary did not get the ball back until only 17 seconds remained.
