KALAMAZOO, Mich. -
After averaging nearly 500 offensive yards over the previous two games, UMass was held to just 218 yards - the fewest since the Michigan game when they were held to 259 total yards.
Mike Cox's rushing touchdown was his third of the season.
Deion Walker had nine catches for 81 yards giving him 29 catches over the last four games.
Perry McIntyre finished the game with 13 tackles for the game marking the fourth double-digit tackle game of the season for the linebacker.
Darren Thellen recorded his ninth career interception and the second of the season. He returned his pick in the second quarter for 38 yards giving him 231 career interception return yards which ranks second all-time at UMass.
Thellen's interception was the sixth of the season for the Minutemen. He was also the first UMass player to record multiple interceptions this season. UMass has a forced turnover in five of six games this year.
Derek Beck started the first game of his career at tight end.
Marken Michel returned to the starting line-up after missing last three games.
Freshmen linebackers Jovan Santos-Knox and Kassan Messiah each started at the outside linebacker spots. For Santos-Know, it marked his second consecutive start. For Messiah, it was his third straight start.
Galen Clemons returned to the defensive starting line-up after missing last two games.
Jaurice Jones became the 27th freshman/redshirt freshman this season to play in a game seeing action on special teams.
Rodney Mills became the 28th freshman/redshirt freshman to play this season seeing action on special teams.
WMU won the coin toss - just the second time this season an opponent has won the coin toss.
For the first time this season, UMass duplicated its uniform combination. The Minutemen wore maroon pants, white jersey's, and black helmets.
