UMass scored 26 consecutive points, including a pair of touchdowns in the final 2:30 of the second quarter, to take its first lead of the game after Old Dominion jumped out to a 25-0 lead.
Jonathan Hernandez gave UMass a 26-25 lead with 5:30 left in the third quarter with an eight-yard rushing touchdown. He finished the game with 121 yards on 25 carries. The game marked the 9th time he hit the 100-yard mark in his career and the third time in four games this season. UMass is 7-2 when Hernandez hits the 100-yard mark.
Jesse Julmiste scored his second career receiving touchdown of the season in the 3rd quarter. He finished the game with four receptions for 51 yards.
Julian Talley scored his 3rd touchdown of the season and the 10th of his career with 38 seconds left in the first half. He finished the game with seven catches for 82 yards.
Emil Igwenagu scored his 2nd career receiving touchdown in the second quarter with 2:30 left ... He finished the game with a career-high 10 receptions for 85 yards.
D.J. Adeoba had his first career interception in the second quarter; he finished the game with two tackles and a pass breakup.
Christian Birt made his first career interception in the second quarter; his pick came off an Antoine Tharpe break-up to prevent an ODU touchdown in the endzone. Birt finished the game with seven tackles.
Brandon Hill took over at quaterback in the fourth quarter after Kellen Pagel was out with an injury.
Quayshun Smith made his first career start as UMass opened the game in a nickel package.
