Opening statement from Coach Morris
I'm very excited about our big win tonight, a good full team effort by UMass. Offensively, defensively, and special teams we played well, particularly in the second half which I think was the difference in the game. We still have lapses in our game which we need to continue to get better at and this off week will help towards that. We need to get guys healthy. A real strong win tonight and the way we turned it on in the second half is where we want to be at UMass.

Coach Morris on performing well tonight without a healthy Tony Nelson
It's a testament to our offensive line, tight ends and fullbacks. It takes more than just the running back to get all of those good yards that we were getting. Jonny stepping up and picking up the yards without Tony being in the lineup. It was a game time thing. We said lets go with Jonny and Cedric and see what we can do with those guys and Chris Zardas. And they responded obviously tremendously. They did a great job. That really has been a testament to our team the first four weeks has been that. Guys stepping up when other guys are out, we have had it all positions. We got an O line that has been giving those guys an opportunity to get big plays. We see Jonny being a hard runner, it was a great job by Jon.

It was going to be up to how Tony felt. We certainly wanted to play him tonight, but it just didn't feel right. It was sometime in the afternoon. Just told Jonny that he was the guy.

Jon Hernandez on running between the tackles today, when he has been primarily an outside runner most of the season.
Our line did a tremendous job today. The front five came out today, I just ran behind them, hit my holes and found my assignments. Coaches did a great job with the scouting reports, I just did my reads and hit my holes.

Jon Hernandez on finding out that he would be the starting tailback today
Tony was a little nicked up so me and Ced were taking a lot of reps so we were able to get prepared. We have Tony's back. Tony told me in the room, he's my roommate. He said he's a bit nicked up, I don't think I am gonna be able to go today. He just told me be ready, you will do a good job, you will be fine.

Tyler Holmes on the second half defense
We always want to come out hot for the second half. Stony Brook came out of the gates ready to go. We just settled down, started playing our gaps, doing our assignments playing as a whole unit.

Stony Brook Head Coach Chuck Priorie's Opening Statement

Our team played, certainly against a quality opponent, who's had a tremendous amount of success and somebody that we're trying to emulate our program after. That being said, unfortunately we didn't have all our bullets in our gun when we lost our tailback on the third play and our other tailback wasn't able to suit up and that limited us a little bit offensively as the game moved on and certainly didn't allow us to possess the ball like we had to. But good football team we played against and we hung in there.

Coach Priorie on having an early lead in the game

You know I know they're a good football team, I knew we'd have to play a perfect game against them, opportunities, which we got on the turnovers, I knew we were going to have to play errorless football and not give up the big plays and we gave up a couple of those, you know but as I said in my statement, I feel bad for our team because we didn't have all of our kids to be able to do what we needed to do and to possess the ball, you needed to possess the ball against them and they took the run game right away from us, but as I said they are a good football team and that's why it concerned me when we had those injuries.
