Redshirt sophomore Randall Jette logged his third career interception and first of the season on Vanderbilt's first passing play of the game.
Jette's pick marked UMass' fourth interception of the season as a team, spanning four straight games. Dating back to the 2012 season, the UMass defense has had at least one interception in seven straight games (beginning at Akron on Nov. 10, 2012).
The UMass defense has forced at least one turnover in 11 straight games, starting at Western Michigan on Oct. 6, 2012.
Redshirt senior captain Rob Blanchflower made his 2013 debut and had seven catches for 42 yards, good for second among the Minutemen's receiving corps.
UMass second quarter touchdown drive of 14 plays and 75 yards over six minutes, 23 seconds, was the longest and most successful drive of the year.
Seniors Devin Brown and Kevin Byrne both registered career highs in tackles with 10 (3-7) and nine (2-7), respectively to lead UMass. Brown's previous career high was last set against Maine on Sept. 7. Byrne's previous career high of eight was last set at Old Dominion on Oct. 1, 2011. Redshirt senior Tom Brandt matched his career high in tackles with eight (4-4), as well.
With his seven catch, 45-yard day, sophomore Tajae Sharpe surpassed his 2012 season total of 206 yards over 11 games. He now has 241 yards through four games in 2013, an average of 60.3 per-game. Sharpe's touchdown was his second of his career (with his first also coming from A.J. Doyle).
Freshman Lorenzo Woodley rushed for a season-high 28 yards, including his longest rush of the season of 15 yards.
UMass quarterbacks A.J. Doyle and Mike Wegzyn rushed for a combined 51 yards, each with a longest rush of 10 or more yards. The duo completed 70% of their passes combined (23-for-33).
