*With a crowd of 53,190 UMass played in front of the largest crowd in school history in any sport. The former record was 51,221 when UMass lost at NC State in 2002.

*Brian Ellis scored his first-career TD on a fumble return of 53 yards in the first quarter. That score was the first score in the first quarter of the season, opponents had outscored UMass 44-0 to that point. It was UMass' first fumble recovered this season.

*UMass posted its first fumble return for a touchdown since Brandon Smith did it against Rhode Island (10/21/06).

*Courtney Robinson had 44 kickoff return yards to move to fourth in career kickoff return yards with 1,130. He passed Adrian Zullo (1,123).

*Josh Jennings had double-figures in tackles for the fourth time in his career with 11.

*Sophomore John Ihne started at center in place of Sean Calicchio. It was his first-career start at center and second overall start. He started at left guard.

*Redshirt freshman Jonathan Hernandez saw his first college action on the game's opening kickoff as a coverage man. He later recovered what was thought to be a fumble on a kickoff, but it was overturned by instant replay.
